Amsterdam: Dam Good Beer (and Food)

If you are ever in the Leaside area, definitely hit up Amsterdam Barrel House. You will not be disappointed with the beer or the food!

The food menu…
So. Many. Appealing. Options.
I spent at least 25 minutes looking at the menu because it took me forever to decide between 4 things: Boneshaker Chili, Smokehouse Burger, Leaside Bowl, and Butternut Squash Ravioli. Eventually, I decided to go with the Leaside Bowl – variety of 12 vegetables & beans over mixed quinoa & your choice of crispy tofu or crispy chicken, with green ranch dressing. It was DELICIOUS. It was so good that I forgot to take a photo!!

The beer menu…
All of the beers they offer are brewed at Amsterdam (surprise, surprise). I went with their “light” sampler, consisting of 3Speed Lager, Cruiser All Day Pale Ale, Big Wheel Amber Ale, and their Rotating Adventure Brew.

3Speed is a pretty standard easy-drinking beer, having a refreshing taste and smooth finish.

Cruiser has punches of citrus to give it more of a strong and crisp taste. I find it to still be rather refreshing, with only a bit of a dry finish.

Big Wheel is another easy-drinker with a soft and smooth finish, but has a nice flavour profile.

Their Adventure Brew was surprisingly my favourite out of the 4 beers. Surprising because it was a sour beer, and normally I don’t have a taste for sour beer or anything remotely acidic and tart. But this beer was only slightly sour, and had great flavours. Unfortunately, these Adventure Brews are seasonal, and they only sell them in-restaurant and at their Brewery Retail Store. They don’t even list the beer on their website.

What I enjoyed the most about their menu is that they recommend certain beers to pair with your dinner. I didn’t have to think about what beer might go well with my Leaside Bowl, the menu told me that light beers are paired best with my dinner. Easy peasy!

Overall 10/10. I will be returning for that Boneshaker Chili!
