Next, from Black Oak Brewing is the Nut Brown Ale. This brew is available year-round, and is Black Oak’s more distinguished beers. I’d like to point out that it has a squirrel on it, already making it a cool beer to pick out.

Style: Brown-ale
ABV: 5%
Where is this beer available? Is it going to break the bank?
Nut Brown Ale, just like BO’s Pale Ale, is available at most Beer Stores and LCBO’s in the GTA. You won’t find Nut Brown Ale in as many pubs in Toronto as the Pale Ale, but some craft beer pubs stock this drink. This guy goes for $3.10 at the Beer Store, making it more pricey than the average tallboy.
What can I expect this to taste like?
This brew is a brown ale, getting its name from the dark colour when it is poured. Brown ales tend to be strong and malty, with a nutty undertone [hence the name] and dry finish. Overall, I expected this beer to have a heavier feel, as most dark beers do.

So, what did it actually taste like???
As expected, Nut Brown Ale has a lot of flavour, including hints of chocolate and hazelnut. I found that, because it was strong and heavy, I only wanted to drink one, and I would’ve actually preferred it paired with dinner as opposed to drinking it on it’s own.
Would you buy again?
I would definitely buy this beer again, but I would probably pair it with a meal as opposed to enjoying it on it’s own. If you check out Black Oak’s website, they actually post recipes that pair well with this beer and/or recipes that can be made using this beer. Check it out here! I mean, who doesn’t love food and beer?
Check back soon to Beat the Heat.
