St.Pat’s 2019: Beer Pong Baselines

Thought I would sneak this post in to talk about my St.Patrick’s Day! For those who are not Irish [or those who did not go to many university keggers], St.Pats falls on March 17th each year, and on this day many people celebrate by drinking lots of beer.

Featuring Mar Mar

What can I say, I’m Irish [and I enjoy drinking], so of course I have to celebrate St.Pat’s by hosting. I made sure all the essentials were there – leprechaun hats, green beer, beer pong, and flip cup.

Which brings me to my topic of choice for this post – beer pong rules.

I feel like we all develop our own set of rules for beer pong. I know our group has added, subtracted, and changed some rules over the years, so it all depends on what rules you find fun.

We play both in pairs and as individuals, all depends who wants to play. Sometimes we play with 6 cups and sometimes we play with 10 cups [usually depending on how many solo cups we have left in the cupboard, tbh].

To start off the game, you must do eye-to-eye. The opponent must look you in the eye, then you both shoot at the same time. The first person to get a cup, receives balls back, and shoots first. The only exception is if you are playing the winner of the previous game, then they have the right to shoot first.

Again, featuring Mar Mar

Our basic rules:
– no elbows over the table
– you can only swipe the ball away only when the opponent bounces the ball off a surface
– “airball” can be called if the ball doesn’t touch the table or a cup when opponent throws their first ball.. but they must call “airball”

Additional rules:
– if a ball goes in one cup, but magically comes out and settles into another cup, both cups are out of play and the thrower gets balls back
– if both balls land in two different cups, both cups are out of play and the thrower gets balls back
– if you throw your ball and it rolls back to you on the table, you may perform a trick shot (eyes closed, bounce off wall/ceiling, etc.)
– if the ball lands in a cup that is out of play, but has not been drunk by the player, the thrower automatically wins [drink your cups ASAP!!]

From there, you starting taking each other down cup-by-cup.

Leave some fun rules you have incorporated into your beer pong games down in the comments.

Hope you enjoyed, cheers!
