This week, I took a step back in time, about 600 years to be exact, and was graced by the Queen’s presence at Medieval Times Toronto. I had never actually seen the show before (I know, shocking), but a couple of my friends had gone recently and told me that it was a blast. So, I decided I had to check it out for myself.

Now, I was told by so many people that Medieval Times is not a place for adults, but, being a kid at heart, I had to go and see the hype. Plus, they serve alcohol, so how bad could it be?
My fiance and I sat front row in the yellow section, which was awesome because the horses were just an arms length away. I could literally smell the footing in the arena (yes, I’m that weird-ass horse girl who pays attention to the smell of footing). Ok, let’s get to the beer before you mistake this for a horse blog…

Arriving to the bar, there were only a few beer options, all of which were available on tap – Coors Light (typical), Canadian (typical), Alexander Keith’s (not bad), and Pickup Pilsner (something interesting!).

Having it be my first time there, I went a little ham with the souvenirs, starting off with this pretty sweet stein filled with the “craft” selection on tap called Pickup No. 26 Pilsner by Thornbury Village Brewery.
When I looked in my stein, I noticed that it poured golden, and it had no particular smell to it, making me worry that it wasn’t going to taste any better than a Molson Canadian.
Luckily, this pilsner was delicious! It had a malty taste, with almost a spicy hop finish. Definitely made my tastebuds happier than a Canadian would (sorry Molson lovers!).
After going home and doing some research, I found that Thornbury Village Brewery is located right by The Blue Mountains in Ontario, making this beer a local craft beer (which makes it even cooler). They crafted this Pickup beer to tribute pickup trucks in Canada… So simple. So inspiring.
This beer has also won some beer awards here in Canada, including Best in Country for a Czech-style Pilsner, and Silver in the Ontario Brewing Awards.
Overall, the beer was great and the show was awesome!! Highly recommend checking out Medieval Times, and grab a Pickup Pilsner while you’re there!
