Beer Store haul pt.1

For their full selection, check out http://www.thebeerstore.ca/

Another beer haul for you guys! I promise you, I will actually get out of the house next weekend and do something a little more exciting.

First off, I want to point out that, ironically, the LCBO has a better selection of craft beers than The Beer Store does. I’m not sure if that is because of the locations I went to, but I was slightly disappointed that there was only a few beers that I have never tried before at The Beer Store.

Featured beer:

I bought Juicy Ass IPA solely because the name. I’ve never pondered about what a juicy ass tastes like, but I’m going to say it doesn’t taste as good as this beer (or maybe it does for some people, idk).

This beer is made by Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery, and, for those who know of this brewer, they come up with some very interesting concoctions, including Paranormal, 12 Minutes to Destiny, and Hoptical Illusion.

I must mention, this beer is not for you non-beer drinkers. It has a strong hoppy taste, just as most IPA’s do. Those whom I was with when I drank this bad boy were repelled by the smell when I initially opened it, as it has a strong citrusy, kind of marijuana smell (not appealing). The first sip tastes similar to how it smells, but it surprisingly tastes really good! It is a strong beer, so it is on the heavy side, but the pine and tangerine helps brighten it up.

Overall, I recommend going out and trying some Juicy Ass.. 😉

Amsterdam Blonde Lager

Amsterdam is the brewer for this Blonde Lager… after Amsterdam had the worst beer on my list last week, I wanted redemption for the brewer, and I accomplished it by picking up this choice!

This golden ale is light and crisp, definitely for the non-beer drinker, as it has little bitterness and no heavy hops taste.

Side Note: if there are any non-beer drinkers that read my blog, I would recommend trying a blonde lager. Especially if you want to develop a taste for beer without jumping right into the IPA’s (which are disgusting to the tastebuds of non-beer drinkers). They are more subtle when it comes to the malt and hops taste that most individuals avoid. It is known for being an “easy-drinking” beer, so definitely give it a try!

Miller High Life

Let me introduce you to “The Champagne of Beers”.

Some cool background about this beer.. High Life was the flagship beer way back in 1903. The company deemed it “The Champagne of Beers” because it was bright and bubbly in comparison to other beers back in 1903, making it a luxury beer, just as champagne is a luxury drink! Ok, that’s enough for my history lesson..

High Life is an American lager, so it’s a pale lager with a lighter taste. The beer has a clean, crisp, easy-drinking flavour. So, Miller has kept the recipe the same since 1903, which isn’t a horrible thing because the beer is good, but it lacks excitement in my opinion. As an avid beer drinker, it’s too light for my tastebuds! But again, maybe a good beer for those who aren’t a fan of the malt and hops taste!

Overall, a very light beer, but definitely worth a try!

Thats it for this week! I feel like this post and last post were focused a lot on light beers for my non-beer drinkers out there (check out my previous post here), so I’m looking out for you guys! We’re easing ourselves into the good stuff!

Next week I will be sharing my beer experience at The Keg, so check me out next week!
